Our office, as well as the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry, recommends that your child visit the dentist by his/her 1st birthday. You can make this first visit to the dentist an enjoyable and positive experience by telling your child of the visit and that the dentist and his staff will explain all procedures and answer any questions. The less fuss you make about the visit, the better.

On this first visit to the office we will do a complete oral examination, cleaning, and fluoride treatment. We may include X-rays and other diagnostic procedures that are necessary so we can get a complete evaluation of your child's oral health. Dr. Miller and his staff will then discuss with you the dental needs of your child.

Appointments vary in length depending upon the complexity and amount of the treatment we need to do. Because it is impossible to schedule appointments for all patients after school hours, we will provide school excuse forms for appointments during school. Please be prompt for appointments. If for some reason you cannot keep an appointment, please notify our office 24 hours or more before the appointment time. We will charge a fee for appointments broken without adequate notice.

We will treat your child as we would our own and perform dental services in the easiest way possible for your child. Do not be overly concerned if your child cries or gets upset. This is a normal reaction to fear and children sometimes are afraid of things that are strange and new. Kindly refrain from saying, "The doctor will not hurt you." When describing treatment, please do not use the words needle, drill, grind, shot, pull, pain, or any other words suggesting unpleasantness. Usually we will explain treatment so your child can understand it. Although children are allowed to have parents or guests with them during treatment, please limit the number of persons with your child. It can be very difficult to render care with distractions caused by others' presence. Also, it is not in the best interest of a child to see another in a stressful situation. Some children even do better without the distraction caused by the presence of others.

Oral health is a very important aspect of the total health of your child. When treatment is complete, we will place your child on a check-up schedule to return for continuing preventive dental care.

Dental care for children is a sound investment in their future health, happiness and appearance. We are happy to have your child as a patient in our office, and are pleased that you have chosen us to give your child this special care. We want our patients to receive the best dental service available, and we hope that the experience will be a pleasant one for you and your child. If you or your child has special concerns, please let us know before the first visit. Please be sure to bring the completed history forms for your child to the first visit; they are quite important.

We strive to make each and every visit to our office a fun one!
